This is the story of how he gains more knowledge and power while also learning more self-control. In this particular duology, Mr. Now I am not so sure. Golds that could be spent on roads and reservoirs and other good works will be spent on weapons and supplies that would not be needed otherwise. However, enjoyable, adding another layer to the Recluce series and once again moving the perspective further away from it’s starting point.

I have enjoyed the entire Recluce series.

Another well-written and entertaining novel set in Modesitt’s world of Recluce, this one picks up where Natural Ordermage leaves off, following Rahl as he continues to make a life for himself in Hamor.

Victories definitely feel hard-earned; resource constraints come up, and Rahl continues his training even between battles, so even as powerful as he is, it’s not of the amge variety.

Aug 11, David rated it liked it Shelves: Exiled from Recluce because his strength and his talent were frightening to the establishment, Rahl suffered a high level of abuse in the last book. There are very few who would be powerful enough to be Magi’i so the triad is based on military power, police including the mages power, and the emperors power. One good aspect of the book is the expansion of the world Modesitt has created. He becomes a brooding character with many secrets.
