Often books that you think you should read to learn something you feel that you should know about are dry and dull and agonizing to get through. Cortislo one has bits of humor humans are not zebras! Even though I have read it cover to cover, you can be sure that this is one that will spend a long time on my nightstand. I want it to be available for quick reference and reminders of what I should be doing and looking for.
Not just a good and informative read, but by all means, a keeper!

Establishment medicine simply ignore its real implications and go for simplistic symptom’s treatment. This book conjection an extremely helpful book, written in terms the average person can understand. As someone who is afflicted with a number of serious diseases brought on almost entirely due to living with chronic stress, this book has helped me understand the importance cortiol doing what is necessary to eliminate stress at every chance possible.
I’ve already been referring this book to people I care about the most. For three months I have been trying to recover from a period of extreme stress, ending up in the typical exhausted-but-can’t sleep conundrum. I have been reading a number of books on natural remedies and nutrition which have been helpful. I didn’t turn to pharmaceuticals because I want to heal, not replace the substances I’m missing.
This book, along with James Wilson’s “Adrenal Fatigue,” have been great resources for understanding the physiology behind my woes. Based on these books I’ve built a list of supplements and am slowly making progress, beginning with reducing sources of stress as much as possible. In Shawn Conncetion book, the sections on the HSD enzyme were key to one of my conditions — not being able to lose weight even with calorie restriction.
The writing style is friendly connectio approachable, considering the density of the material.
There is a lot of information to digest, and I continue to refer to various sections. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. A rich collection of studies preformed on the endocrine system makes this book a fountain of knowledge. I felt, however that the little insight that came from this was played over and over again and it seemed to me that the book had been edited for search engine optimization.
Sadly, this made it much longer than it needed to be. At times, it talbort like I was reading the same sentence for the hundredth sjawn as if Cortiaol would forget after the first ten. Overall however, I think the book was very helpful and enlightening! So, despite my frustration with the repetitiveness, I’d highly recommend it.
This book has a good amount of science once you get past the beginning. For people with a science background you will prefer “Why Zebras Don’t get Ulcers” – which this author cites and quotes abundantly. The section on supplements and how they effect cortisol levels is interesting. There is no a lot on the diet – get his other book for details on that.
